The Church Hill School, 1870 and on its original site, Baetge House, Welsch Barn, Forke Store, Haelbig Music Studio, Star Exchange and Billiard Room, Jahn Cabinet Shop, Jahn House ( famous cabinet maker), Scholl House and log cabin are located on 3.5 acres. Lindheimer was highly regarded in this German community and in 1852 he was unanimously elected the first editor of the Neu Braunfelser Zeitung. In addition to his work as editor, his knowledge of political affairs allowed him to assume many public duties. He conducted a free private school for gifted students, served as Superintendent of Public Instruction in Comal County for several terms and was the first Justice of the Peace.

Visit the Sophienburg Museum and take a delightful trip back to the mid 1800's when New Braunfels was founded by Prince Carl of Solms Braunfels. Hundreds of artifacts and exhibits help transport the visitor to a much different time when hardships dealt with nature and overcoming the elements.

View the boyhood home of Prince Carl of Solms Braunfels through the magical reproduction of the castle and village created by famous Texas artist Jonas Perkins. Visit Naegelins Bakery, an orphanage, the pharmacy, a general store, a doctors office, a shoemaker, a master cabinet maker, a barbershop, a saloon and much more, all in a short stroll through memory lane at the Sophienburg Museum.

Exhibits change frequently to depict seasonal cultural traditions and to maintain freshness for the repeat visitor. We look forward to your visit!
